Life Issues – The Judge’s Punishment.
Some people will do all they can to get ahead in the world and they will convince themselves that what they are doing is right – even if deep down they know it is not.
Aviner wanted to make a good life for his daughter. Without a mother figure to bring Elkie up, to care for her, Aviner had made a promise to himself (and his wife on her deathbed) that he would do everything he could to make sure that his little girl wanted for nothing. He thought that by getting a good position for himself as well as money and material possessions that Elkie would be okay.
Meanwhile his son Danil was craving the love and attention that was being relished on his sister. Danil was also hurting through the loss of his mother and needed to know that Aviner cared for him as much as he did Elkie.
Danil loved his father and wanted to be noticed by him. But he was bitterly disappointed, horrified really when he found out that his beloved father had cheated his way to the top. Danil soon adopted his father’s underhand ways to try to gain attention for himself and thankfully was found out.
Father and son were reunited and all was well again. Both had learned that the way to make a good life is not by behaving in an underhand way and that everyone needs love and attention.
We all need attention. And most of us want the good things that life has to offer. It can be tempting to do anything you can to get ahead in life and cheating your way to the top is something that unfortunately happens all too often.
Instead of being able to enjoy what comes with success however you would soon realise that your soul was suffering and that all the people that you stood on in an effort to clamber your way to the top no longer respected you or wanted to be anywhere near you.
What kind of life would that be? Who would want to sit and sip champagne for example if those around you were looking at you with hatred in their eyes? How would you be able to sleep at night knowing that your soul was poisoned?
It can be a bit of a runaway mine cart when you get yourself involved in things that you should not be involved in. You think to yourself that you will just do this one little thing and that it will get you to where you want to be. But then you find that one little lie leads to a bigger lie, that one bad deed leads to another one and before you know it you are knee deep in trouble! You have to lie to people through the day and toss and turn through the night worrying that you will be found out. You lie to those who love you and even worse, you start to lie to yourself.
So what do you do? Honesty as they say is the best policy. There’s nothing wrong in wanting what is best but you must try to gain that with integrity. Don’t cheat others and don’t cheat yourself. Treat other people how you would want to be treated.
You may find that you do not get everything you had hoped for in life. You may find that it takes you a lot longer to get to where you would like to be. But at least you will have your soul in tact and you will not have trodden on people along the way.
To do something good and to hold on to your dignity and treat others equally all at the same time must be one of the hardest lessons to learn in life. But also one of the most rewarding.
